The preparations to start the business in mushroom farming started around January 2025; however, AJ Terra Fungi ventures was officially registered in May 2025 under the Office of the Registrar of Companies and Business Names in Zambia.

The first harvest began in June and concluded in July. Although the yields were limited, they were of very high quality. Throughout this initial growing cycle, we gained valuable experience, which gives us confidence as we plan to expand production. Additionally, we established contacts for selling fresh oyster mushrooms in local markets and built relationships with key buyers.

From the spawn we prepared xx fruiting bags, of which xx were sold to local market so people so they can grow their own mushrooms. The remaining xx fruiting bags were placed in the dark room.
Before 2027 there should be enough profit for the company to construct a bigger and better growing house.

After being imbursed by Skills and Business for Africa, materials for the mushroom farm was purchased, amongst the materials were, metallic drum, firewood, twine, bundles of metallic nets, wood, planks and sawdust. The farm setup uses a combination of metallic netting and wood to protect the dark and growing room from rats and squirrels, while thick black nylon is used in the dark room to ensure additional darkness.”

Impression of the training

To perfect my knowledge and know-how on mushroom cultivation, I enrolled and attended an intensive training with at CHERISH MZKATHY AGRO AND ALLIED VENTURES PORT HARCOT. During this time I was personally assigned with some spawn to grow before certification.

The start-up fund of € 700 (127 000 Nigerian Naira) will be used for a training, mushroom spawn, substrate and equipment.
